i got to meet hector when i strted getting into salsa, he i believe was a patient at st clairs hospital in the city,.. he was singing in his room and when i past by he asked me for a cigarette,..the guy who was there with him asked me if i knew who he was...i really didn't know who he was until i left the hospital, i was a young ambulance driver at the time( mid 80's)and i had just started getting into salsa deeply, thats when it dawned on me who i justseen and gave 2 cigarettes to. i... i got to meet hector when i strted getting into salsa, he i believe was a patient at st clairs hospital in the city,.. he was singing in his room and when i past by he asked me for a cigarette,..the guy who was there with him asked me if i knew who he was...i really didn't know who he was until i left the hospital, i was a young ambulance driver at the time( mid 80's)and i had just started getting into salsa deeply, thats when it dawned on me who i justseen and gave 2 cigarettes to. i tried to go back in to get at least an autograph but i had to keep the ambulance moving, it was the time aids hit the epidemic status here in new york, to this day i reget not going back into the hospital to see him again, the next time was in campbells funeral home, saying good bye to the singer of singers, may you rest in peace my brother from my heritage mothers home land,.. que viva puerto rico....
